
Student Learning
All students enrolled in the Community Leadership Class (CLC) will receive direct and engaging instruction using the Community Leadership Curriculum. The curriculum is designed to be utilized over the course of a semester; however, it is adaptable and suitable for numerous school schedules. The curriculum has been adopted from the very successful PeerCommunity CoCare Program provided by LifeSpheres, a 501(C)(3) and South African NPO. During the CLC, students will receive psychoeducation about the effects of trauma, the gifts of adversity, as well as explicit instruction and practice on the Life Engagement Exercises that are uniquely designed for students.
Students will learn from the following modules:

Module 2: Learning Skills for Life
Module 3: Our Roles and Responsibilities
Module 4: The Theory of Trauma and Recovery
Module 5: 3-2-1 Contact! -Communication Skills for Life
Module 6: Practicing Leadership in Community
Module 7: Critical Thinking- Call it like it is!
Module 8: Leadership and the Environment
Module 9: Waging Peace
Module 10: Considering the Future
All students will receive the Community Leadership Class Student Workbook as a tool to learn and practice life engagement exercises. In addition, students will have an opportunity to engage in service-based learning and will be responsible for creating a community service project that directly benefits their school community.
After successful completion of the CLC, students are eligible to participate in the PeerCommunity CoCare Program as a four-week summer day camp. Even if students opt-out of the PeerCommunity CoCare Program, the Community Leadership Class prepares them for life!
